What’s Your Thermostat Set To?

Ideal Thermostat Settings for Every Season

Anoka CoolingAdjusting the thermostat in your home a few degrees can reduce your energy consumption and help to conserve the natural resources available to us all. What many people do not realize is that those savings can be a result of moving the thermostat only a few degrees each season. To better understand the ideal thermostat settings for every season, consider these important tips.

Indoor Temperature Setting for Summer

During the heat of the hottest time of year, set your thermostat to approximately 78 degrees. To keep the HVAC from running too long, close the curtains and blinds in room where direct sunlight is entering the room. This can help reduce the temperature in that room by 10 degrees and put less strain on your cooling system. At night you can raise the setting on the thermostat 2 degrees and simply turn on some fans to keep the room cooler.

Indoor Temperature Setting for Fall

As the leaves change color and fall off the trees, the temperatures begin to drop as well. It is not uncommon however for a minor heat wave to hit during these months, especially in late September and early October. Leave the cool setting on your thermostat set to the exact same numbers you had for summer. This will keep the house cool if the temperatures outdoors unexpectedly climb.Anoka Thermostat Installation

Indoor Temperature Setting for Winter

Turn the setting on your thermostat to heat, then lower the setting of the temperature to approximately 68-69 degrees. During the day wear a sweater or woolen shirt to keep warm. Place blankets on the couch so you can stay warm at night watching your favorite television shows. During the night when you are tucked under all those blankets you can lower the temperature setting a few more degrees until morning.

Indoor Temperature Setting for Spring

The same thermostat settings you have for winter work for spring as well. The early months of spring can be quite brisk during the night and early morning. These temperatures will continue to rise slowly each day until summer arrives again.

Your local HVAC repair company can help you to make this process very easy by installing a brand new programmable thermostat in your home. This device will lower the temperature setting at night in the winter, then get the home warm for you when you get out of bed.
